CD SARAKINA suspended in the Mist

The album mostly features dances and songs from the Meglen region, also known as Almopia, located in northern Greece near the border with North Macedonia. These songs are still sung there today in a Bulgarian dialect, which testifies to the multicultural nature of the area. Tracks 4 and 10 on the CD originate from the Pirin and Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria, respectively. Meglen is a picturesque valley surrounded by the Voras, Dzena, and Paiko Mountains, and its name comes from the mists that often cover the area. The music on this album is a journey back—home, to the roots, to an inner landscape where one can discover new versions of oneself and draw strength for the days ahead. The Meglen region is also home to the village of Sarakini, from which our band takes its name; thus, Sarakina symbolically returns to its origins with this album. Jacek Grekow
